A 19-year-old Binghamton University student from Westchester was fatally stabbed at a residential hall late Sunday night and the suspect is at large, university police said.
Joao Souza of Rye Brook was a freshman engineering student and 2017 Blind Brook High School graduate, where he was a three-year starter on the varsity boys soccer team.
The stabbing occurred around 10:30 p.m. Sunday on the ground floor at Windham Hall. As of Monday morning, police were still searching for the suspect.
The suspect, who fled on foot, was described by university police as a light-skinned male wearing dark pants and dark Puma hoodie.
State Police joined university police in the search.
Police are confident the stabbing was not a random act.
Classes at Binghamton were canceled on Monday. Counseling is also being provided for students.
